I had the chance to visit this amazing place with a group of fellow garden designers. Our main aim was to see the gardens created by Piet Oudolf however, I was totally enthralled by the entire complex at Durslade Farm in Somerset. The combination of art and sculpture gallery, architecture, gardens and restaurant work in total harmony. The cloister area was a particular delight with its mix of grasses and perennials providing a glorious space for the sculpture. At this time of year the main garden has real wow factor. The late summer flowering perennials planted en mass are a delight to the eye. Scale here is everything, but there are beautiful plant combinations to copy. Remember that the planting is on a clay soil. Do visit. It would be worth going for each season and hitting the exhibition changes as well.
